MPSS
Manning Primary Safety System
The Manning Primary Safety System (MPSS) is a total, turnkey solution for the detection of toxic gas leaks. It provides a "hardened" safety system utilizing dedicated MPSS sensors connected in realtime to a GM-10 multi-channel monitoring and warning control unit – all protected by a single uninterruptible power system. MPSS responds to unsafe gas levels with visual, audible and electrical outputs configured to initiate orderly shutdown and control of potentially dangerous leak scenarios.
At a time of increasing computer complexity, the Manning Primary Safety System combines advanced analysis and detection with a user interface that is designed to quickly and accurately convey emergency conditions.
MPSS is not dependent on third-party computers and operating systems. It utilizes hardwired, fixed logic integrated circuits, making it impervious to accidental program modification or the daily onslaught of computer viruses, operating system crashes and human errors. When life-threatening gas leaks occur, MPSS provides a highly reliable and dependable detection and warning system – no "rebooting" required.
Realtime Monitoring
MPSS gas sensors detect the presence of toxic gases using the diffusion method for simultaneous, realtime monitoring in all areas. This technology is vastly superior to the "sample draw systems" used by others.
Reliable and Durable
MPSS gas sensor design reflects Manning’s decades of experience in providing precision gas alarm and leak detector systems. Because the sensors contain environmental control technology, they are highly sensitive and selective to the gases they detect – even in harsh environments.
MPSS gas sensors can detect over 30 gases and refrigerants and output a 4/20 mA linear signal proportional to the gas concentration detected (multiple ranges are available). Sensors are housed in durable #16 gauge steel enclosures and can be mounted as far as 1500 feet from the MPSS Multi-Channel Alarm Console, which provides power to all sensors, including sensor environmental control.
Electrochemical and Infrared Designs
MPSS electrochemical gas sensors are highly selective in detecting many gases at very low concentrations – typically below 100 ppm (parts per million). They are very resistant to interference gases that can cause disruptive false alarms in other systems. MPSS electrochemical gas sensors can be configured to detect CO, O2, Cl2, ClO2, H2, SO2 and others, and make an especially effective and low-cost sensor for ammonia.
MPSS infrared sensors use an optical technology to detect energy absorption by gases at specific wavelengths. They are very selective to their target gas and are the first choice for detecting carbon dioxide and refrigerant gases.
MPSS Multi-Channel Alarm Console – A Dedicated System
MPSS is a dedicated system that can be configured with up to ten MPSS gas sensors hardwired to a Manning GM-10, which functions as the MPSS Multi-Channel Alarm Console. The Manning GM series of hardened Readout/Alarm units display complete system status when quick, accurate decisions must be made in life-threatening situations:
- Steel cabinets, not plastic, are used for maximum physical protection
- All sensor cable is continuously supervised electronically
- Heavy duty, internal power supplies for sensors are supervised for safety
- Hardwired, fixed logic integrated circuits provide lifetime "no-reboot" performance
- Designed to resist electromagnetic and RF interference
- Performance guaranteed by NRTL/C and CSA/US approvals
24x7 Protection
The MPSS Multi-Channel Alarm Console is engineered to operate as a 24x7 gas detection and warning system. It features an uninterruptible "no break" back-up power system that keeps it and all sensors and their environmental controls powered and functioning during AC power disruptions. Because the MPSS sensors are hardwired to the console, they don’t require individual power supplies and aren’t vulnerable to unreliable wireless communication.
Ten Channels of Safety
Each monitoring channel on the GM-10 is equipped with safety features and functionality that make it much more than a simple readout of gas concentration levels.
The Warn and Alarm trip levels are user-configurable and each features an LED indicator and triggers for appropriate relays. Channel faults are indicated by a third LED and activate associated relays and warning buzzer.
Flexible and Expandable
MPSS has an optional, isolated 4/20 mA output signal from each of its ten channels proportional to gas concentration. For installations that require more alarm and warning relay control, one or two Relay Output Boards can be added to provide up to 40 additional relay outputs.
When your MPSS is operational, you can have complete confidence that it will be your 24x7 sentinel for safety.
