IR-NH3
Infrared Ammonia Gas Sensor
The Manning Systems IR-NH3 infrared detector is a wall-mounted system designed to determine the ammonia content of air in industrial applications. It senses and indicates NH3 over the range of 0-2% (20,000 ppm), and provides a linear output of 4/20 mA as a function of NH3 concentration. The IR-NH3 is an excellent sensor for use in mechanical rooms or refrigerated food storage freezers and coolers when electrical shutdown is required. Its highly specific ability to sense ammonia eliminates the worry of false trips in critical shutdown applications.
General Description
Gas detection by the infrared method is based on the principle that most gases absorb infrared energy at a characteristic frequency. Any ammonia in the gas sample cell selectively absorbs energy reaching the detector. This change in energy is detected, amplified and sent to the signal processing portion of the system. The sensor contains a pulsed infrared source, a gas sample cell, optical filter and a detector, which provides an electronic output that can be converted into gas concentration values. This unit will operate many years with minimal required maintenance as there are no pumps or filters to maintain or replace.
The IR-NH3, used in conjunction with Manning Systems readout units, is an integral part of MPSS. The Manning Primary Safety System (MPSS) is a total, turnkey solution for the detection of toxic gas leaks showing gas safety status of an entire industrial facility at a single glance. Multiple relays trigger key emergency safety control of equipment shutdown functions and allow Emergency Responders to easily assess an ammonia or other gas leak situation - even in the event of computer viruses, operating system crashes or human error.
The IR-NH3 with the optional ATMOS equipped® technology can meet all of its performance specifications down to -50° F and in condensing humidity environments or during washdown.
Monitor one to 96 sensors from a single controller
All Manning Systems sensors can be monitored by the GM-1 single channel gas monitor or the GM-10 or GM-4 multi-channel gas safety systems that provide an individual bargraph display of gas concentration for each channel, plus relay outputs for emergency response and ventilation control.
The new AirAlert 96d multi-channel gas monitoring system adds addressable RS-485 Modbus communication protocol to the broad line of Manning Systems readout/alarm units. A total of 96 gas sensors and relay modules can be linked to a single controller.
The "C" and "US" indicator adjacent to the CSA Mark signifies that the product has been evaluated to the applicable ANSI/UL and CSA Standards for use in the U.S. and Canada. This includes products eligible to bear the NRTL indicator. NRTL, i.e. Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory, is a designation granted by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to laboratories which have been recognized to perform certification to U.S. Standards.
