Maintenance garages are often monitored for general air contaminants with a broad-spectrum sensor to trigger ventilation fans. If safety ventilation is the only purpose for gas sensing, the combination of a linear solid-state sensor and internal relay plug is an extremely cost-effective way to trigger ventilation controls and increase personnel safety.

If "gas specific" sensing is required, the EC monitors CO, NO₂, H₂, NO_x, among others. For carbon dioxide sensing, the AirScan™ iCO₂ monitors in the 0-1%, or 0-5% range. The CGT monitors combustibles in the % LEL (Lower Explosive Limit) range.
