Confined Space Entry
Manning Systems gas sensors operate with a high degree of selectivity, making them excellent safety instruments for confined space entry applications. Oxygen, combustibles, refrigerants, carbon monoxide, plus other gases can be monitored to determine if a space is safe to enter.
In addition to monitoring oxygen depletion levels, Manning Systems always recommends that the target gas be monitored as a more direct indication of a safety hazard. With technology available to selectively monitor most common gases, the level of safety is greatly increased by including a "second nose" to monitor the offending gas and identify a problem long before oxygen displacement or depletion would be recognized.
In many parts of the U.S., local building and fire code officials are interpreting typical walk-in coolers in supermarkets as "confined spaces". Because of this re-defining of a "walk-in", additional gas-specific sensors are being required in many cities before a supermarket can begin operation. The AirScan™ iR infrared sensor for refrigerants is frequently used instead of the common "broad-spectrum" solid-state sensors often used in the past. The AirScan™ iR will not false trip around fruits or bananas, vegetables, dairy products, fish, etc.

Manning Systems can supply a single point gas sensor system, four channel system, or multi-channel unit that monitors as many as ten sensors at a single master safety control panel.
The new AirAlert 96d multi-channel gas monitoring system adds addressable RS-485 Modbus communication protocol to the broad line of Manning Systems readout/alarm units. A total of 96 gas sensors and relay modules can be linked to a single controller.
All readouts have relay outputs to notify security personnel, activate fans, shut off valves or refrigeration equipment, etc. Sensors give a linear 4/20 mA output and can tie directly to a PLC or building control system.
The GM-1 or GM-JR readouts located at a room entrance will display a ppm indication and provide relay outputs, plus local horn (on GM-1) to indicate a safety hazard.
Manning Systems offers the EC-P2, a portable gas measuring and data logging instrument, complete with an interchangeable target gas selective electrochemical sensor, primary and secondary batteries, charger, storage case, data logging software and RS-232 output cable. When used with a gas-specific ammonia cell, the EC-P2 monitors ammonia as low as 5 ppm. An internal pump delivers a positive sample flow for quick, accurate measurement displayed in real time. SMART-CELLs can be exchanged easily without need for calibration.
Manning Systems offers personal protection portables by BW Technologies for the single or multi-sensor toxic gas detector market. These innovative, low-cost portables are ideal for industrial hygienists, safety managers, petrochemical applications, fire departments, police and emergency responders at risk of exposure to toxic contaminants.
